Ashok N. Hinge, born in 1978, is a Mumbai-based visual artist. He works primarily in abstraction, using gestural lines and expressive brushwork. Inspired by the rhythm of daily life, particularly the crowded energy of Mumbai’s local trains and platforms, he captures movement and human emotion in flux through a calligraphic visual language. Using acrylic, watercolour, and mixed media, Hinge creates layered textures and repetition that evoke a visual choreography, reflecting the city’s relentless pulse.
A celebrated figure in the Indian art scene for over 25 years, his journey includes eight solo exhibitions, including two at the prestigious Jehangir Art Gallery, and more than 50 group shows. He has received several accolades, including the Art Society of India’s Best Exhibit, Sir Hirji Jehangir Award for Modern Painting, Karmayog Award, Prafulla Dahanukar Merit Certificate, and the Afaqs Foxglove Award for Elixir Designs – Gold for Living Lines.
